Doug was born in Managua, Nicaragua to Christian parents. His family moved to San Francisco, CA because of civil war in Nicaragua. Doug began a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as an 11 year old boy. As he lay in bed one night, he realized that he was a guilty sinner who needed forgiveness from his sins (Romans 3:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:9). Doug was born again on March 21, 1985. He was baptized shortly thereafter at Calvary Baptist Church in San Francisco, CA by Pastor Ron Allen. Doug sensed the Lord leading him to full-time Christian service at age 17. He obeyed the call and began training for gospel ministry at Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College in San Dimas, CA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1997. He also attended Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Plymouth, MN. He earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling degree in 2000 and a Master of Divinity degree in 2004.
God brought Julie Oftelie into Doug’s life when he moved to Minnesota. Doug and Julie were married in 1999. They have four children, one of whom is with the Lord. Doug serves as a volunteer police chaplain for the Elk River Police Department. He enjoys time with his family, fishing, hunting, and NFL football, especially cheering on the San Francisco 49ers during football season.
